Maybe this could be an opportunity to change to whoopie slings?

OK, today I pulled out my old sewing machine and made a gathered end hammock, attached whoopie slings, figured out how to tie a marlin spike and hung the new hammock on SMALL trees. I still need to do the knotty mod to tame the floppy sides and make a fronkey bug net. I will probably just use mason line for a ridge line in the short term until I get something stronger. I'll use this for the upcoming Santee, SC hang and not have to worry about getting the Hennessey repaired quickly.

GrannyPat,,glad your ok,,and love your spirit..as it sounds like your getting good to go for another hang..about those trees in a drought,,with no rain or water in trees,,we have big big branches falling in our roads everywhere,,every day now,,as water in trees strengthens them and without,,they snap like a toothpick. Take care of yourself and pick your trees as the angels will be with you like they were when you had this mishap.

Great news! Heard from Hennessey Hammocks rep today and she said that although it wasn't a warranty issue, they would fix the suspension free if I paid the shipping both ways. That sounded like a good deal to me! Great, sturdy hammock with great customer service.

We lost a huge Oak tree on our property 2 years ago during the wettest winter in many years. The ground was too soft and down it came.

Wet or dry, I think when an Oak wants to go, it just goes.

Good deal on the hammock repair.

Someone mentioned hanging from smaller trees. Good point!
