As soon I read this I taken my tarp out of its pouch and unfolded it and placed on my bed. I've got a storage container I use to store my camping gear, thanks for the tip.

But I wonder, being cuben does it really matter if it's stored folded?

When I say fold its more of a fold/stuff simply so it fits in the drawer its not neat or anything like that. I keep it loose

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

This is the question. I'm very keen to hear an answer to.

There's not a lot of info out there on Cuben Fiber. I've read somewhere that it's not effected to UV light, I hope it's true, because where I live there's a lot of UV.

Being that the Cuben Tarps are so expensive, it's wise to get as long a life as possible, Would be great to hear from someone that knows a bit about Cuben Fiber, in particular the Cuben used on the Hammock Gear Cuben Tarps.

I know some materials are susceptible to damage on the folds if left folded for a long time, but does Cuben come into this class?

    Zpacks

I wrote to Joe at Zapacks. I have one of his tents and tarps...for my hammock, ok! Anyway - when I hear back from him regarding the care of cuben, I will report back to you guys.

I emailed the question to the manufacturer, Cubic Tech; if they reply I'll post the response.

    Stuffing Cuben

So I wrote to Joe at Zpacks and this is what he had to say:

"Hey joe - is it bad for the cuben tarp and tent I have to stuff them into stuff sacks? When I got them they were folded and rolled but now they are just stuffed into their packs...not sure if that is a big deal but. I don't want to mess up my awesome new gear!

    Thanks,

    Nick"

    "Hi Nick,

I don't think it will hurt the material any.

No one has ever reported a problem and I'm sure many others stuff them.

    Best regards,

    Joe Valesko
    www.zpacks.com"

    So there ya go.

FWIW, I stuff mine into a bishop bag to make it easy to deploy / pack. I noticed it was difficult to stuff when new but has become easier to pack after a few stuffs into the pack. Despite that, I like the idea of starting at one end with the tarp folded in half lengthwise and while leaving the far side still attached to the ridge line to keep the material taut and off the ground, folding it in 12" sections until I get to the other side where I can then detach it from the ridge and roll up the folded 'strip'. Will probably produce a 12"x4"dia. cylinder. I think this technique was mentioned early in this thread.

I read somewhere on another post, that Hammock Gear recommend to Fold and not stuff.
Get's very confusing, one says one thing the other says the opposite.

Would love to hear from Hammock Gear on this matter in why he recommends to fold and not stuff the cuben into it's pouch.

I know this...as I keep my cuben tarp,,either stuffed into a bishop sack by Zpacks, or a set of snake skins from WL..either way,,it always gets hanged and the wrinkles come out and its flat after a hour or so of hanging,,it hangs tight every time. no stretch, and stays water proof and wears great..and the wrinkles pop right out after a hour or so. It is what I expect of my cuben tarp and works great for me. I think we all worry alittle due to the expense we have put out for a great piece of gear! Who is to say that 5-10 years from now, we were the testers of cuben tarps, learning the ways of using it and such,,and what will we be using then?
