Doing Research

Mods if this thread is breaking any kind of rules, then I apologize and feel free to delete this thread.

I am doing a Research Paper for my ENG-120 class. It is an Argumentative/Persuasive style essay for the assignment. My instructor heard me talking about my hammock to another student and wanted me to base my paper on hammocks and the benefits of switching to them from traditional ground based camping. He seemed quite curious on the topic so this will be great for the both of us. Him -being curious- and me -being enthusiastic about writing on the subject- will make for a more enjoyable paper to read and write.

I wanted to gather some primary research by actually getting feedback from some of yall on what you consider the most important benefit to hammock camping vs traditional camping.
Granted there are many benefits that could be listed, I would like to narrow it down to just a few key benefits if possible as to keep my essay to the required word count as instructed.

I would like to use a pole for this but sometimes things can get left out, so what I will do in addition to a pole is allow the replier to list their top 5 benefits in order of importance in the reply. Your personal top 5 will be listed separately from the Pole above.

Remember this is an essay meant to persuade an actual audience into hammock camping and will be presented to possibly hundreds of people so lets keep everything realistic, for answers, as possible.

1. Not sleeping on rocks & roots.
2. Not ending up floating after overnight rain.
3. Not having to crawl on all fours in & out of bed.
4. Being able to setup in downpour & stay dry.

my only reason is so i don't sleep on ground. i don't hammock.

sleeping in a hammock makes these things more enjoyable at my age.

I like having a comfortable seat as well as the comfortable sleeping. Sitting on the ground, or on a log, rock, etc. can be very uncomfortable at my age. The bad knee/back doesn't help. I love sitting in my hammock with my stove between my legs cooking dinner or making a cup of coffee!

Xtrekker the only other option I would have like on the poll is "All of the above". I'm a full timer and comfort is my primary reason for doing so. Bet you'll ace this paper! Oh, another advantage of hiking & hanging with other like minded souls is that everyone wakes up happy.

1 sleep better
2 don't get wet
3 more, or at least different, options for location to camp. Lots of places I want to go have little to no flat ground, it's wet, or. both.
4 you can setup in the rain and stay dry
5 not having to crawl to get in & out

Hammock forums came as a bonus

1. Comfortable nights sleep
2. More set up options - can always find trees but cannot always find flat spot for a tent
3. Versatility - can use hammock as seat, can sleep without tarp in nice weather
4. Less impact on the surroundings.
5. Can enjoy the natural surroundings - porch mode allows for great views and waiting out storms is more enjoyable.

When I was a t**t user, I could never get a good night sleep. You check your spot on the ground and think you removed all the root and rocks, lumps gone. But you always seem to miss a few and find them in the middle of the night. So I checked the option of a good nights rest.

I would have liked to be able to check more than one option. As an Asst Scout Master, we camp out once a month at least. I get a laugh at the other Scout Masters crawling out of their t**ts and then having to find something to sit on while cooking breakfast. I can sit up kick my legs over the side and start cooking. It's easier getting up.

One of the first camporees that I used my DIY Stand and hammock, it was raining when I set up. I was told by one the the leaders of the host troop that I was going to get soaked under my tarp. I have stayed high and dry. I have been on campouts and had other complain in the a.m. that their t**ts leaked and were full of water. I have not had any problems.

The hammock is also a lot cooler in the summer months. A nice breeze blowing under me is nice after a hot day. I can say, that with the heat, a hammock can't be beat. I can open up the tarp and get a little air flow, can't say that with the T word............RR
