    adjustable SRL

    Hi all
Im a newbie to hammock camping , and recently went on my first trip . It was a learning experience , I now see the importance of a SRL . I would like to make it adjustable and I cant find any measurements for total cordage , or where to make the locked brummel ,or how long to make the bury. from all the info I could find an adjustable length of 85" to 110" is optimal.

anybody have any thoughts on this

    thanks for all great info

P.S. its great to part of the hammock family

First off welcome to the forum. Now on to your questions.

Here is a pictoral thread on a loked brummel.

As for the rest about 14 feet of cordage will get you a 6 foot whoopie / adjustment, you could either make a whoopie sling or buy an adjustable SRL already made from wilderness logics, its only 15 bucks. But A non-adjustable ridgeline of the correct length is good. If it isn't taut, it means that you didn't hang the hammock correctly. But a adjuatable SRL is good when setting up a new hammock to find that sweet spot. But after that its rendered use less. But all in all, you cant go wrong ether way. The way I did it when I made one for a freind is I cut a pice of line ar 120 inches and ket tying loops at different lengths, if it was not right I would move to the next one until we found his "sweet length" then once that was done we cut off extra. Hope this helps your situation and possibly opens your eyes to other possibilities.

Easier to go with an adjustable ridgeline, even though you may never adjust it once you find your sweet spot. Zing-It or Dynaglide will work fine. Follow the instructions for making a whoopie sling. I use SlowBro's pictoral now that I understand the concept:

YouTube vids might help you more when you are first starting out.

The ridgeline should be about 83% of the hammock length, with some adjustability. So in my case, my hammock is 11 ft. long (132"), so my ridgeline should probably be about 110 inches. Therefore I would make a 10 ft. whoopie sling of Zing-It (approx. 20 ft. of Zing-It). You could go with a shorter whoopie, but I'll leave that to others who are more math-savvy than me.
