Go to the post office and pick up a couple of the Tyvek envelopes, fill with sand and tie off to them. TheY are reusable, tough, and free. I even use them as stuff sacks in my pack.
    brilliant!

i have had a Kelty Sunshade and currently have an REI Alcove and i can tell you that in a wind they both become sails! i have cheap camping stuffsacks that i got from Wally World and i just fill 'em with sand and attach them with guy lines. so far, so good...

SMC T-anchors work great in snow or sand. I used them for my tarp in the Grand Canyon, pre-hammock, and again on the Middlefork Salmon when there were no trees. I have also used them in the snow and had to dig them out with a ice axe after 3 days. They really hold well.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

How was it? Where are the pics?! What ended up working best?

I'm heading to the beach this year with my 9 month old and was hoping to use my maccat standard over buying something of cheap quality and expensive for shade. Got lots of good ideas for the guyline anchors here but did you end up using pvc piping for the ends? How'd your set up fair in the wind?

Actually made them for a snow hang using a cut up Walmart blue tarp and paracord. They worked great. Easy to do.
