Broomsticks... yep 60" hardwood broomsticks (1 1/8" dia) with tapered ends, that is the basis for my recent contraption for suspending a hammock.
The Windsor designation is for a tool that I made to accomplish the tapered mortices in the head piece of the tripod which is used by Windsor charimakers and of course the witch is a reference to the broom content.
The unions on the crossbar are turned cherry with bands of 1 1/2" copper tubing for strength and purty factor.
I'll probably redesign the saddle that clamps the cross bar in place to give it a smooth rounded profile that won't be a problem if a tarp is stretched over it. I also need to trim the crossbar to final length. I'm considering shortening the legs a few inches so I can get a lower pitch. One last problem that I haven't been able to come up with an elegant solution for is how to fix the legs in the tripods securely but hey, we're still in development.Broomsticks were between 5 and 6 bucks each (9 total) the rest of the stuff I had around the shop.
So I guess I'll probably refine some of the parts, slap some finish on and swap out the eyebolts for some shouldered ones. Basically just futz around with it till I get it how I want it.
