    dink712,

I hadn't seriously considered making them to sell, my intention was to keep simplifying the design till it was easy to make with basic tools and skills.

I'm still working on the step by step assembly photos but haven't finalized my design yet.

I will be very interested to see the final project...I have some power tools and the skill to use them and might just want to make one for myself because it looks so nice!!

Interest expressed to buy tripod head fabrication if and when you or some vendor partners with you to make it.

Just to give start to a wish list.

    Dreaming !

I like the new additions! I can't wait to see what the finished stand will look like.

    Awesome!

How very exciting this stand is, Bannerstone! Thank you for the nod, and you are most sincerely welcome.

IMHO your stand is approaching the manifestation of my fantasy stand. Your stand eliminates the worrisome wonkiness of the simple lashed trip-pod system, as does the Turtledog stand. Your next "simplification" posts are awaited here with much anticipation. Less is better! We are getting sooooooo close.

I would be pleased if you would post a link to this thread on the Turtlelady portable hammock stand thread so that others who land there see your work. I missed your earlier posts during a busy time when I was not paying close enough attention.

    Joyfully, Turtlelady

Okay, so now I am not going to be able to think about anything else all day!

I am seeing the possibility of a routed channel across the top of the tripod head that the ridgepole sits in. Shallow grooves the ridgepole to hold the suspension loop. Oh, for an hour in a woodshop with you and Old Dog! A group hang near a woodshop/metal shop to focus on tripod stands would be worth a road trip!

Are the holes in your tripod head that receive the tapered broomstick ends also tapered?

What is the laminated wood you are using for the tri-pod head?

    Joyfully, Turtlelady

Re-reading your words, which I scanned quickly to get to the photos, I see what you wrote about the Windsor chair tapered mortices, so ignore that question!
So I need to visit a local furniture maker, eh?

    Turtlelady,

I didn't mention that I also elminated the tapered ends, it's much simpler now. Don't know what I was trying to accomplish with all that.

The laminated wood is a simple 3 piece stack of of 3/4" birch plywood glued together, call it cabinet grade. I chose it because I planned to turn it on the lathe and wanted few voids. I think a sub-flooring grade plywood would work as well structurally.

Now may I thank you one more time for your excellent suggestion of the groove coupling, it really got me out of a design rut. Such a simple idea. I was also lucky to have my son visting tonight to bounce ideas off of and to lay in the hammock while I observed how things behaved. That helped me to see that the tripods are more stable than I had thought.

Thanks you again for your kind words, please keep touch.

    David
