Middle Fork Trail Cranberry Wilderness, WV

Took the Scouts on backpack trip this weekend to the Cranberry Wilderness area. The younger Scouts did a 5 mile loop, while the older ones did closer to 11 miles.

The younger Scouts walked in 2.5 miles and set up camp while the older Scouts started from the other end of the trial. A few hours later and 8.5 miles later we joined the Wolf patrol for a night of camp fire, dinner, and music! One of the Scout's Dad has a backpack guitar (2lb) and treated us to numerous songs around the fire.

Here are some photos (if they do not post, check out the photos in my album (Middle Fork Trail)
PS: if someone can point me to a post on how to upload more than one photo at a time to an album -- that would be great

    Thanks
    my hiking pal

Those boys are fortunate having men like you show them the way.

Glad you had a great hike. Those kids will remember it forever.
Saturday campsite at Big Beechy? On the way in with the older boys, did you see a campsite where Hell-For-Certain Branch comes in? Earlier this summer Bear Chaser and I met some hikers who asked if anyone was camped there, but I haven't been on that section of the trail in a few years, and I don't recall an established campsite. I think the branch enters through a rhododendron thicket on the opposite side from the Middle Fork Trail, so it's hard to see what's there.

My first backpacking trip ever (25 years ago) was in Cranberry and our first day we came down the Middle Fork Tr. and camped somewhere around Hell for Certain Branch. That trip started me on a lifetime of hiking and backpacking. Unfortunately we were ground dwellers back then but it was great nonetheless. Hope your guys take away a lifetime appreciation for the outdoors also. Good job.

Saturday camp was where Big Beechy meets Middle Fork. There were a couple camp sites back up the trail, complete with fire wood covered by plastic. We were looking for the Hell for Certain marker, but did not see it--- would have been a great photo

Thanks for posting your report and thanks for taking your time to show the kids that there's more to life than X-box!
