    UQ button hole suspension

BACKGROUND: I plan to make a down UQ in the near future and am contemplating how to hang it under the hammock. Typically I do not use a SRL--I just eyeball the angles and adjust the whoopies if necessary.
I have been thinking about the prospect of adding, say, 4 buttons to either side of the hammock and have 4 corresponding button holes in the UQ and cinch cord at the head and foot ends to seal up/vent the quilt.
QUESTION: Would adding the buttons/button holes be a viable option or would it not work? Has anyone ever tried this method for a UQ?

Being a marketer, I always say that everything is worth testing. However, I think your idea may have issues in that it doesn't allow for any stretch of the hammock when you are in it. This is one of the reasons that shock cord is used as the most common underquilt suspension.

    Let us know you results.

Don't think it'll work how your thinking. The shock cord attachment has give. If you trip, or lean on it, it'll rip. Plus, If you want to looosen it to vent. Venting isn't just loosening the ends, it's also letting it hang a bit lower than the hammock so it's not touching, but still blocking any moving air to suck away the heat. I had the same line of thought, until I attached my first UQ, then those little things are easier to notice/pick up on.

How about sewing in the buttons and then sew in loops of shock cord to the UQ?

Just off the top of the old head--what if you placed the buttons only at one end (head) of the UQ and used the typical shock cord suspensin at the other. This would secure the head end but still give the give/stretch needed.
    just a quick thought
