    Weight of Nylon

Suppose one wants to make a hammock, single layer out of 1.1 Ripstop Nylon using 3.5 yards. What would the projected weight of one be? Ignoring suspension system. The DIY supply website didn't list the weight of fabric. Also, what would be the weight limit of the same fabric? Thanks.

1.1 is the weight. That's the weight per square yard. 1.1 has a weight limit of about 200lbs.

    so... at 3.5 yards... that's um 3.5 yards.. Most fabric is either 54 or 60 in wide. I'll guess 54... that's um... 54/36=1.5 yards... soo... 3.5*1.5 is um... 5.25* 1.1oz/yd = 5.775... Plus whipping... figure 6 oz.

Add suspension, and you're at 12oz...

That sounds about right, give or take. I have a 1.1 with Dynaglide suspension and Amsteel adjustable ridgeline, with a ridgeline biner and it came in at right around 12oz. That includes a RL organizer and Knotty mods.

Thanks! Now I know how to calculate weights! I keep getting the DIY bug. I'm going backpacking this weekend with my hammock for the first time and reading all these posts on the DIY stuff has got me so interested in my making my own gears.
