    Cooking from my hammock? Dangerous?

One of the things I REALLY like about my hammock is how I actually have a CHAIR to sit in while out in the wilderness.

I'm an ultralight nut but the slight extra weight is worth not having back pains.

Anyway. The one issue I have is cooking. It would be NICE to cook without having pains in my lower back. Sitting in a hammock would rock but the synthetic material would melt if heat got to it.

I also need to mention that I use a wood stove... so the flames are uncontrollable. Any thoughts?

I love my woodburners, but they don't go under my tarps....very often.

So you could throw back the front of your tarp. Not sure what you use for a wood burner and what kind of wood you burn but i get very few embers floating up in the air, with my Bushbuddy. Its a risk tho

It is a risk I agree and I haven't done that yet to my Cuben tarp but all my other tarps, including silnylon have had both (small) fires and woodstoves going underneath them.

A fire is very well controllable imvho. But a small risk still lives on ....

Not recommended with a wood burner. I think the flame could be controlled but the smoke/soot factor with the possible stray ember hitting sil or cuben would bad. Alcohol stove should be fine if well attended.

it only takes a small ember to make a big hole in your tarp or hammock... trust me, i know, and i don't recommend it.

also, i recently bought a backpacking aluminum stool/table for $12 on REI's clearance section. it is so lightweight that i add it to the outside of my bag and don't even notice the weight... i want to pick up another one for my husband. *just a thought :0)*

Not a risk I'm willing to take with regards to damaging gear or attracting bears.
