wind , rain, and my hammock....

went out the last couple days. did a little camping. first day was absolutely beautiful. 70's for highs, 50's for lows. but day 2 got to be a little not so nice. first came the wind. started out about 15 -20 mph steady all day. once my tarp came unsteaked on one side but i quickly fixed that. then came the storm/front that was comeing from the south. started blowing at around 40 mph with a few 50's in there im sure of it. i seen it was gonna rain and soon so i tightened up my tarp and laid back in my claytor jungle hammock . i brought 3 poncho liners with me for blankets. put one between the layers and the other 2 in the hammock so if i needed them i had them. then the rain came, coming down making as much noise as it possibly could. youd of thought a tidal wave just washed down on me. lol then it started to cool. and quickly. went from about 80 to 52 in a very short time. needed those poncho liners.lol, wrapped up and nodded off while listening to the slower rain now hitting my tarp. woke up and it was dark. about 1 a.m. or so. i was dry, my tarp was intact, water was dripping from the cinch buckles as i planned it should and everything was good in jungle hammock land.one thing i do need to do if im going to forget a flashlight, or to charge my phone, is get some kind of glow in the dark string to tie onto those zippers.lol when you just have to get out of that hammock and make a little rain yourself it sure helps if you can find the zippers. but it was another awesomely enjoyable hang with mother nature.

Sounds like a good time. I would recommend getting a micor light like this http://www.amazon.com/LRI-PWK-Photon..._bxgy_hi_img_b
You can leave it clipped to your ridge line. I think some people even leave it there when they pack it up....that way you never forget it.

Dutch has a better version of this micro lite for $3.50. Hia on/off switch is so much easier to squeeze.

I put zipper pulls with reflective cord on all my hammock zippers and hammock socks and bug nets. A small expense (70 cents to a dollar), but make them easy to find. I keep a tiny flashlight clipped to the hammock ridge line. It has a slide switch instead of a push switch so it won't turn on when stuffed with the hammock.

I have left my WBBB XLC up in the back yard for two or so weeks. We've had a few nasty downpours. I'm only using a cheapo walmart tarp to cover the hammock and I've been pleasantly surprised at how dry everything has stayed. I'm using a piece of paracord on either side of the hammock suspension just under the tarp to prevent water running down the suspension onto the tarp. It works really well. Event in the downpours. I must say I'm really surprised. Now to get out in the woods and try it out set up in different areas.
