He basically said that he uses a length of cord with a loop spliced in one end, the loop thrown over a marlin spike hitch in the tree huggers, and tied to a descending ring on the hammock end.

Really, if you're going to screw around with knots, you can just put a ring on your tree hugger, keep the suspension cord permanently attached to the hammock, and just tie the knot at the tree. No need to use the marlin spike hitch unless you need to shorten your huggers.

The last half of the video is him explaining how to do the splices, and you really only need to watch the first half to hear his thoughts on why he doesn't like whoopies, and explain his preferred method.

The amount of time spent adjusting the whoopies vs adjusting the round/half hitch is probably about the same. I see the advantage of using the round/halfhitch knot though- you only have to undo the half hitch to re-adjust, the rounds on the steel ring can stay in place.

The two main points raised about Whooopies is:

    - There will almost always be a 1-2 ft gap between hammock and tree- therefore lost adjustment space
    - You need double the amount of amsteel to make a whoopie, as opposed to one length of amsteel.

It's 12 of one and half a dozen of the other.
