Yes, we have done that several times. ZQ I should add....not just the superfly...other tarps as well.

So I noticed your list of materials for the tent poles did not include the 146* arch the OP mentioned. Your pole is straight, but it bends to the desired arch?

ZQ here....yes the poles bend. You will not need an arch piece.

Anybody have pics with a double pole mod to a superfly. Trying to get myself down to one multifunctional tarp and this might be the ticket.

can anyone speak to this one concern:

is it impossible to pitch the superfly with steep sidewalls with the pole mod?

the steeper the pitch, the better the vertical coverage, getting the tarp as close
to the ground as possible. it seems with the pole mod, there is a limit as to how
steep the tarp can be pitched.

i imagine the poles have a good bit of flex, so maybe it just depends on how long
one decides to make the pole?

i really like the idea of the pole for space and structure, but do wonder if it can potentially limit the maximum amount of vertical coverage. ???

On my winter tarp (which has 128" width) my pole tips can just about sit on the ground and be almost vertical. I still have plenty of headroom under that tarp. A smaller tarp (typically 104" wide) will act the same way with the poles vertical but to set them on the ground will result in not enough headroom to be comfortable.
You can also add an arch fitting at the ridgeline like Soundman does with his tarp. That steepens the pitch angle considerably.
I'm sure there is some limit before poles snap but I think for most 104" wide tarps you will not see it happen.

    Pole mod madness

Great to see the pole mod interest.
    My poles are 18"-18"-18.5"-145 arch-18.5"-18"-18".
If I pitch the tarp steep it help to stake out from the pole pockets.
One of the best features not mentioned is the fact that the pole adds a great
Deal of rigidity. Wind does not blow in the sides against the hammock.
It would be cool to see a double pole mod!
