I have been in the RidgeRunner in a heavy rain, and I did have water drip down the bugnetting suspension. I would tie drip lines to those next time, to be safe.

And the corner buckles worked well as drip rings for the hammock suspension?
Any risk of the water dripping from the corner buckles onto/into the saddle bags?

Thanks for the info as this was a concern of mine seeing how the suspension triangles poke out of the tarp ends.

I'd love to hear others' experiences as more folks get theirs out in the elements.

I was asleep during the heaviest rain, and did not observe the corner buckles. I think I only got a little bit of water from the bugnet suspension, as those lines were pretty wet under the tarp. I did not get any water in the side pockets at all. The only things that got slightly wet were the very ends of the hammock. Drip strings on the bugnet suspension would solve it or at least help immensely, IMO.

Does it matter what material is used for drip strings? I've got a bit of left-over dyneema guy line I could use.

A piece of cotton shoestring works well. Maybe rob it from some old sneakers.

You want something that absorbs water, so usually natural cordage works better than synthetic. As AS said, a cotton shoestring or a piece of yarn works well...probably better than dyneema. But the dyneema would probably suffice if you can't afford shoestrings. I've used 550 cord and it worked well enough.

we're including a 28" piece of string now for drip strings.

also, the cloudburst tarp has a ring underneath that you can attach the netting line to so it stays under the tarp and allows you to get a steeper angle on the shockcord for better upward pull. another option would be to attach to the end of your tarp, that should keep the shockcord covered as well

Well, for those using continuous tarp lines, should be able to just connect to that.

How about a loop of something held in place on the triangle as it broadens under tarp coverage, and connect the bugnet to that? The net wouldn't pull enough to affect the triangle forces, right?

it needs to be pulled upward as much as possible, the ring on the cloudburst is ideally positioned, but attaching to cont. RL or to the end of the tarp itself should also work fine. i think trying to rig something off the suspension triangle would put the attachment point too low to lift the net properly
