Welcome aboard from Lakeland. Pretty much a DIYer except for the things MADD made me buy! Getting to the point that keeping up with all the new DIY projects is hard but loving every minute of it. Be looking for you on a hang.

If you're looking to DIY textile-based items, I highly recommend both Ramblinrev's We Don't Sew...We Make Gear! video how-to series and his advice on how to choose a sewing machine (called a "thread injector" by most here).
Otherwise, spend a few days reading through the stickies on the DIY forum.
For a first project, Thru-Hiker's instructional on how to make a stuff sack is pretty easy and a good place to start.
