How often has hard wind ruined your trip? I would like to hang at 5,000 feet and above and the wind can be blowing up there during the fall months. Just curious how often wind pulls your stake out of the ground and all that.

I've had times where I thought the wind was going to take off with my tarp, but everything has always held fine (until I blunder around in the dark and trip over the lines). I use groundhog type stakes for loose dirt or windy conditions and ti shepherd's hooks the rest of the time. I usually take a combo of the 2. I also have tensioners on all my tarps which I credit for relieving some of the strain on the stakes. I will usually put largish rock up against any stake that might be a little iffy and tie off to immovable objects where possible (seems like more often than not I have a tree or two in the right spot.) so anywhere there's trees to hang I've not had a trip ruined by wind.
Groundhog type stake?
http://www.rei.com/product/682543/msr-ground-hog-stake I always throw a couple of this type in, great holding power and fairly light weight
How about these? I just started a new thread to see if anyone has used them.

Ground hog style stakes are great but they're only as good as the ground they're anchored into. A good insurance for loose ground in high wind conditions it so lay a nice heavy stone on your guyline near the stake. 30 or 40 degrees of deflection will give you a nice extra measure of mechanical advantage.
