I decided to cut up my GG 11'X11'. I decided I wanted it to be a roughly 12'x9' hex tarp. So the diagonal ridgeline was 16' and is a flat felled seam I measured in 2' on each side, cut off the other points at the factory seams, marked the downward line to connect the cuts I made, and bound the edges with ribbon. The finished tarp is 140" on the ridgeline and 110" on the width. I think it came out ok for never having done this before, and not being able to mark straight lines with a straight edge.
Rotary cutters are the best thing on the planet, and I hate pinning.

Thanks to everyone for great posts without them I would have never had the nerve to do it.
