Hello. New guy from Phoenix, Az. checking in.
First off want to apologize if I’m stepping on any toes with the login name. I’m “Stormcrow” on at least a half-dozen other forums (Hummer, Binder, off-road, knives, firearms, etc) and this is the first time I’ve actually seen where someone else actually used the name. Moderators feel free to adjust as necessary. I’m a lurker and occasional poster.
Secondly, thanks to all of those that have contributed to the knowledge base here on the site. I’ve learned a ton in a short time and been able to successfully put it to practical use.
Now my story – I was surfing the Hummer forum (early June?) and one of the guys mentioned spending the night in a Hennesy hammock during his off-road excursion. Always looking for ways to improve my camping/outdoor experience I started looking into it. It was pretty much down-hill from there.
Good timing afforded me the opportunity to attend a hammock showing at the local REI put on by dejoha. I spent many hours researching and finally pulled the trigger on a WBBB DL 1.1 and Superfly. While waiting for it to be delivered (it didn’t take long at all, I was just anxious to try hanging) I couldn’t help but order a GT Ultralight and some Amsteel to play with.
Fast forward to this past weekend (not to mention some Dutch Stingerz, no-tangle line, and shock cord) and I finally got to put it all to good use. A two-night hang in northern Arizona, backpacking in Chevelon Canyon, and am very happy with how it worked out.
I always like when people post pics, so thought perhaps some of you all would enjoy these as well.
This is technically my first real hang outside of my back yard. Due to bad traffic conditions we didn't get to the campground until about 1am.
my buddy borrowed my extra hammock (GT with Whoopies I made) and got a cheapo blue tarp.
The next night was able to spend a little more time and square it away a bit better
