Next question: edge tarp guyline length?

    Hi folks

Here I am with my second question (thank for the treehugger help!): Is there any tips on side guylines for the edge tarp? I'm going to run a continuous ridgeline but that shouldn't make a difference. Is it at all possible to rig them for a single peg, or do I need 2 per side? And thoughts on what length to cut them to? I'm going backpacking in September and probably won't have a chance to set the hammock up before that. I have 100' of line to play with, and I'm hoping 30-40' would be enough for the ridgeline.

    Thanks again!

You'll need 2 pegs for each side for the tarp, unless you can find handy trees, rocks, etc. So you'll need to take 6 pegs all together - 4 for the tarp and 2 for your WBBB.

I've found the tarp pitches best when the two guys on the same side are angled away from each other a bit. My lines are just over a meter long (about 4' if you prefer) which is a bit on the long side but it gives me enough length to go to porch mode with my hiking poles if I want. I know I could have shorter guys on one side and longer on the porch side, but that'd require me to set the tarp up the right way round every time.

I usually carry an extra 4 or 5 meters of cord with me for multiple purposes (e.g replacement bootlaces) which I've one or twice needed as an extension to one or other of the guys when setting up on a sloping site.

I use 6 to 8 feet on my tarp corners. Also carry a couple extra hanks 6' long for porch mode or an unexpected difficult pitch.

I have the Edge Tarp and left the two guylines longer on the porch side and two shorter on the back side. In reality, I could have gone with three shorter and one longer. . .the longer on the head end of the porch side. I tend to put that one up on my hiking stick with a clove hitch and leave the other three guylines tied lower.

To keep track of where the longer guylines are, I tighten up the foot end of the snakeskins first and pull the head end slightly over when I'm taking things down. Similarly for the hammock, I leave the head end strap sticking out of the bishop bag.
