    blackbird or traveler

this is Johnathon and my first post and ive been doing some research for a while now with so many manufactures and models to chose from, it can get a bit daunting i think i`ve narrowed down the choice of manufacture and next is what modle of these two BB or traveler i can see pros and cons for each but im wondering is there someone out there who has tried both..i will be using the hammock all year round so there will be substantial temp differences as im living in Norway so im going to need insulation both under quilts and foam underlay as it can get down to -30 where i live but my question is more about the model these are the things i can see myself and what i think are good and bad about the BB, you can only lye in it only one way and the netting cant be removed totally, but footbox and shelf really cool, but it cost more. T, can lye on it both directions bug net is a cool design and can use it on other hammocks i buy in the future cheaper price over all what should i do any help would be good

I've owned both and still have a Blackbird. I'd go with the Blackbird personally if you're choosing between the two. It's a great hammock.

You didn't mention weight, which is the biggest benefit of the Traveler.

For me, the answer is in your own post. You tipped your hand.

See what you said there? There will be more hammocks in your future, so get the lower cost one, and I might add, more flexible one; the Traveler. The comfort between these two hammocks is slight, if at all. You can leave the netting at home if you want with the Traveler, which is nice. You'll save many ounces leaving the netting home too. More OREO cookies can then be put in the pack (best reason of all!) The shelf of the Blackbirds is simply wonderful, but an organizer on the ridgeline of the Traveler can be almost as handy.

You'll need that extra money for all the insulation you'll be using at those temps too! I love my Traveler and it has been my goto hammock for sometime now. Doesn't mean I love my BBs any less, but I take those when I'm comfort camping. Besides....

Just make a BB one of those other hammocks you'll be buying in the future.

I have the BB and Traveler. I'd go with the DB1.1 BB so all your bases are covered. Later when you want another hammock for netless use i'd have a look at the Wilderness Logics Lite Owl. I just received my Lite Owl a few days ago and it is quickly becoming my favorite netless hammock. Not ready to dethrone the BB yet.

I agree with Cannibal. I generally grab my traveler in the winter and one of my Blackbirds in the buggy months. Both are great products!

If you can only buy one right now and if it will be a while before you are going to buy more hammocks, it makes sense to me to get the Traveler and the bugnet. You could use the BB with the net tied back but if you don't need bug protection its just more weight you don't need to carry. With the Traveler you are also covered for day hikes or even backyard hanging. I do think you should get a BB down the road though.

Blackbird all the way. Its a perfect all around hammock. For camping, bugnet closed. For relaxing, bug net rolled back. If you take good care of it, you could sell it down the line for close to full price (which you won't because its one of the hammocks you just can't part with) . And get the double layer so you can just use a sleeping mat (that you probably already have) for insulation.

Agree with cannibal. W/ traveler u can add or leave home bug net or add sock for very cold.

Add a knotty mod (do a quick search .. easy mod even for someone who is not a diy person)

I like the wbbb but the traveler is so much fun.

instead of using shelf .. stuff sack from traveler holds any junk in my pockets

And if u want to be a superhero it makes a great cape! Haha

    Good luck!
