Zing-it too slippery for prusiks?

Speer no-tangle sticks well...almost too well. Also that Spectra that z-packs sells...same stuff, only a bit smaller.

Yeah, it's a bit slick when new. Given a bit of use, it snugs up so tight you have to roll the prusik between your fingers to get it to release.

I sometimes take a length of new zing-it that I'm going to work with and stretch it between two points about waist high then tie a prusik to it and slide it along the length a half dozen times. I also use gloves to protect my hand from burns. This wears the slick off the outside of the line and stretches the weave somewhat. It also makes it a bit harder to bury so I like to do all my splicing work first. Oddly you'll notice the line will feel smoother and at closer look it will seem duller and a little fuzzy. That's what you're after.

I have been using braided mason line as it is soft and seems to grip well. I use a guitar string as a fid and pull 12"-18" back thru its self, you have a double layer now. I just use a single or double fisherman's knot to form a loop. I use this now on almost everything as it is cheap and holds very well.
It grips well on 7/64 amsteel and 2.2 zing-it. Again it's $5.00 for about a mile of cord.

Ill try the Klemheist first. Then branch from there and see what sticks. Iv got a wonderful trip this weekend to Green River Reservoir where ill have plenty of time to test.

To explain more about my setup, the NiteIze reflective line is 2.5mm, and that is 2.2mm Zing-it. the Zing-it seems to grip the NiteIze line well, but you have to ensure the Klemheist is secured tightly. I should be getting some 1.75mm line soon. I don't think I will be able to make a continuious loop as small as I can tie the loop, but I may try it. I now have 3 different tarps, so I can try different things on each one.

Always fun to experiement with this.

I have been using 1.75mm Zing-it on 2mm Lawson Glow wire. Prussics w/three wraps hold fine, but they are hard to slide to release tension. I just got some 2mm Dyneema IronWire (also from Lawson) and using it for my prussic on the Glow wire seems to hold great w/four wraps and also releases easily. Have not been able to use it in the field yet. Wondered if any else has used this combo.

For me, the Blake's Hitch has worked the best. It holds well and slides well. I've had trouble with Klemheist, Prusik, Heddon and other friction hitches. Either they didn't hold well or after putting enough wraps to hold, they didn't slide very well. Typically a Blake's Hitch has always worked, sometimes I would have to do a 2-3 Blake's Hitch to hold, but still slides well.
