Hi there folks! I've been hanging in a HH Expedition now for a couple of years. While I sleep better in the HH than on the ground, I'm growing interested in trying other hammock options. How have you guys tried out different options without spending a fortune? I hope to get a different hammock, and want to look into UQ/TQ options as I've only used sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

I'm slowly moving from car-camping to backpacking, so I'm just getting into lightening the load. At this point, I'm looking into double-layered hammocks, such as the WBBB.

If there is anyone in the 28327 area of NC who could help out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all for your time and your experience, especially the painful ones that provided the great moments of wisdom.

NCHanger you are in luck there are hangs coming up soon in your area. There is a good mix of hangers attending. You will see a large variety of rigs and you will have a great time.

Attending group hangs is the best way to check out different set ups and talk to the folks using them. Just be sure to ask before you get into someone's hammock as there might be a weight limit issue. The Terminator use to get nervous every time I got near her Ridge Runner even though I told her I knew I was too heavy for it.

There is Yates Hang, and a mountain hang and SC Fall Sprawl Pittsboro and Yates (Uhwarrie) are near you. And you will meet other hangers and see more gear than you can see in a thousand YouTube videos besides the coffee is great and you can try out cooking on campfire. And you might give Marty Gallimore a call at Wilderness Logics located in Thomasville NC-- he has a showroom with single and double layer hammocks set up under tarps--and he will let you try them out. Marty is a great guy and he sells hammocks quilts tarps etc all over the world.

Welcome from Garner. Hope to see you at Yates. Wish I could make Lake Jordan but it just happens to be my wife's birthday and that is a trump. Most group hangs are car camping but some require a short hike in. There is usually hiking options at the car camping hangs. They are all good and fun, fun, fun!
