thanks for the advice! I actually have Dejoha's book but wasn't sure about the bunk bed style. It seems a bit difficult to get in and out of to me as well as a bit claustrophobic for whoever is on the bottom. i would be so scared of getting squashed! The opposite sides of the same tree idea sounds really good bullfrog! There are a lot of big trees here on the coast! I think my vertex rain fly is probably big enough to go over both hammocks if they are on the same tree like that. Saves me from having to buy something new!
From what I can tell you have a couple options.
1) Get a two person hammock. (I'm actually going to be trying that out in the near future with my new Treklite double) I hear this isn't very comfortable, especially for tossers and turners. Nevertheless I'm going to try it anyhow.
2) Use trekking poles/stick/whatever for spreader bars for two hammocks in parallel. This requires some setup, and I don't know how the other hammock reacts when you wanna get out for a pee break.
3) Bunk style. Getting into the upper hammock could be difficult.
4) 3 tree method. Though this is not always available.
5) Just sleep separately. It was a little bit... difficult... to get used to for the first couple times, but now me and the lady do it all the time. We truly look foreword to sleeping because we know we'll be out like lights once we crawl in.
Edit: I'd personally avoid having the hammocks in a position where they could rub together. I've learned that even the least abrasive materials, when rubbing on your hammock all night, can make wear spots. Yes, in one night.
