Hi all,
THis is actually nuttysquirrel's mother. He is dying to go to this hang. We only live 2 hours drive from Mt. Hood, however my sister is coming from out of town on sat. afternoon. I'm considering coming for Friday night. Are there any women or teens? We may come for friday night only.
Hi there,
I introduced myself last week on the "new guy forum", and thank you so much for the welcomes from the Oregon folks. I have two questions, one about the upcoming winter hang and one embarrassing newbie question.
First, I have family visiting starting Saturday the 19th through the weekend (perfect timing, no?). I very much want to attend the hang to meet people and see different setups, but if I can it will be only for Friday night until about noon on Saturday. The question I have is how many people who are going will be there from at least Friday on? And what time will people be arriving on Friday? I'm supposed to be working until 4 on Friday and I work about an hour away from Frog Lake, so if I work I'll be arriving in the dark. Not ideal, I know. I may take the day off (mental health day .
And now the embarrassing newbie question. I have a Hennessey Explorer Ultralight hammock. I believe the tarp that comes with it is 30D silnylon. It has a somewhat shiny side and a duller side. Here's the question: which side faces the sky and which side faces the hammock? Does it matter? From what I've read on the forums and elsewhere, silnylon is supposed to look the same on both sides, but mine definitely does not. Any insight would be appreciated.
One last thing. I live in Portland and work in Happy Valley and drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd with a snowpark pass. If anyone wants a ride up and I'm convenient to them, feel invited. I can fit three more.
Thanks for reading my novel : )
All good questions. Bring your tarp but I think those may be a bit small for winter get yourself a tarp from a store long enough to cover your hammock but not too large and we can set that up (bring extra cordage). You are going to want full walls for winter hanging.
As to which side goes up and down on your tarp if it is silnylon and not coated thenit wouldn't matter and would just be a matter of personal pref. Oh and the shiny side might be the fabric itself not the treatment to make it waterproof.
Rip , oregon and myself should be there at about noonish at least.

I'll be there Friday afternoon'ish, depending on when I can get out of work.
Nuttysquirrel's mom, there will be a few women attending (I'm one). Looking forward to meeting everyone.
