I was under the impression that wasn't going to happen due to the sheer number of threads they would have to move...I'm excited about the new subforums! Easy to find hangs!!!

For though's of you concerned... I talked to the Ranger station headquarters and they said this time of year you can pretty much camp anywhere. I asked about campgrounds and he said "Yep should be fine just clean up after yourself. Overnight parking is not an issue as long as you have your snopark passes.
So we are allowed to camp at Clear Lake with no issues.

Sorry have not been on much in a while. Work has been keeping me swamped.

I think its bigger than Frog Lake's Sno Park.

Other options are still possible, but we are limited on areas that are plowed
So, I'm recovering from surgery and limited on my ability to hike. I would love to do a 3 miler with snowshoes, but my doctor doesn't even want me carrying a pack. A few logistical questions for you:

How far from the parking lot would we be?

How much snow is expected? Would snow shoes be necessary to get to & from the car to the camp site?

    What are the expected temperatures?

How long of a drive is it from Portland to the parking lot?

Are there any amenities nearby (toilet, store, restaurants)?

Are their any fees involved with parking or camping at the location?

What time are you getting there and what time are you leaving?

Is it hard to get there in the dark and find the campsites?

Does anyone have a spare pulk?

    Distance from parking lot:
Well its about 1/2 mile to the lake as far as I can tell.
how far around the lake to where we end up camping I cant answer quite yet.
I think im going to do an overnighter up there next weekend so I should be able to answer that better then.

How much snow is expected? snow shoes necessary? :
Well if your early I am betting you will need snowshoes.
After a group of us has packed down the trail maybe not.. But I recommend you use them and bring them just in case. We have extras.
As for snow.. Its a Mountain... A fair amount I am guessing since there is already snow up there.

    What are the expected temperatures?
Again its a mountain... could be in the 30's could be in the teens.
Be prepared for around the 20's

How long of a drive is it from Portland to the parking lot?
I am in Beaverton and it takes me about 1.5-2 hours to drive there.
Add snow..... So depending where in portland.. 2-3 hours is a good guess
    depending on traffic and weather.

Are there any amenities nearby (toilet, store, restaurants)?
there were outhouse buildings at the campground that were unlocked.
We used the ones at frog lake last year as well. They were cold but you didn't have to be in the snow while doing your business.
A short drive down the hwy are some gas stations and other places if you need supplies.

Are their any fees involved with parking or camping at the location?
You will need a snopark-pass. If from Oregon you need an Oregon one if from Washington you need a Washington one. There not that expensive.
The annual one is like $20 at REI and you can get daily as well I believe.

What time are you getting there and what time are you leaving?
I plan to be there early on the 18th and leave sometime Sunday.
Last year we all packed out together.

Is it hard to get there in the dark and find the campsites?
Hiking through the woods in the dark is always hard if you ask me..

Does anyone have a spare pulk?
Not yet but you can make one fairly cheaply and I am planning on making one like mine to auction off.

For out-of-towners, I grew up in Sandy (the Gateway to Mt. Hood...) and I highly recommend stocking up on supplies there instead of in Welches further up the mountain. Prices will be better. There's a Fred Meyer as you enter town on the right and a Safeway further down on the left before Also, there are places to rent snowshoes if you need to (Otto's is the best, has a good selection). Before the Fred Meyer, there is a USFS office too, also on the right, if you need any information on the area on Mt. Hood. Sno-Park permits can be purchased at a lot of places along the way. If there's anything I can help out with about the local area, let me know! I spent 18 years of my life there.

I have at least one person helping me make it, I plan to sit down and discuss that shortly. Feel free to send me your recommendations.
