Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from you folks. First though, I need to find a couple of trees.

Welcome from Florida.
It seems like hangers are poping up all over the world, and that's a good thing!
I would be surprised if you can,t find another in Belgium. Did you check the HF Google map?

I am INCREDIBLY jealous of you for being an American who gets to live in Belgium. I visited there on my honeymoon and it was, hands down, my favorite country I've ever visited. Such good food!
I plan to try to get back there for a longer visit in a year or two, hopefully we can time it for a group hang. Pick up some Trappist beers, some good cheese, and settle down in the woods. Sounds like heaven.
welcome to the madness
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Hello Mustardman,
It is nice here I have to admit. I will say though that it is a very densily populated country and there seem to not be that many places one could go camping. Most I would say are in the southeast in the Ardennes region.
From what I have gathered though most legal camping areas are commercial campgrounds, with swimming pools, showers, restaurants, pubs and the like. Most of these type places I think might be good for bicycle touring where after a long day in the saddle, a quick shower and a warm meal would be welcome. I do not, however, know if there are regulations on hammock camping or not, there are it seems to me a lot of regulations. It could be that it is up to the individual campground. Some of the websites I have seen for camping here are a bit discouraging, as the pictures of the lots are in a field or across a parking lot from the big rvs and the like.
To be able to get to more legal primitive (fire ring, picnic benches) camping I have not been able to find here. Makes me wonder why did I get involved in this hammock thing.
In any case, a group hang in Belgium would be awesome. If possible, we could go to Bastogne and have a Battle of the Bulge Hang.
Welcome from antwerp!
Also welcome to our strange little place.
Welcome from downunder! Belgium's a great place to be, I lived in Brussels for a few years up till a couple of years ago. Didn't do any hanging while I was there, was too much into cycling at the time (a whole other story if you're in Belgium). But I do seem to recall there was a Belgian group hang in the Ardennes about this time last year - search the Trip Reports forum and you should find it.

Hello from a northerly neighbor. You heard it from Bayoubomber; “but the Dutch are good people and really not far from you”
And yes, we do camp together. Check out;
