    Self-induced heart attack!

Yesterday I was out at my local state forest for a trike ride, and I wanted to install Dutch's nifty little mini side-lock device on my WBBB's pillow leash. So after the ride, I figured I needed to test-nap the pillow setup.

My WBBB is equipped with cinch buckles & straps, and I normally verify that the Amsteel loop is riding properly within the pointy end of the buckle. But I was tired and failed to check.

As I sat in the hammock I was greeted with a "POP" noise and a sudden drop in altitude of about an inch. One of the buckles had self-adjusted. No damage done. Lesson learned. Nap uneventful following that incident. All is well.

Gotta love that feeling of heat in your lower back when the adrenalin hits...

Glad nothing worse came of it! I always worry when using my DIY suspension; sitting down gingerly is definitely the order of the day!

Not had that problem yet but thanks for the heads-up.
I've had several "Buckle incidents" especially the Welded Triangle (Separated at weld) but also the satin Bison brand (Good quality but made for 1" not 3/4" Polypro.) ZZZZzzzzzzzzz, Boom..... I hope nobody saw that, Lol.
They all have shortcomings, if they are easily adjustable then they are not as secure and require a locking knot.
My fav now are the cinch buckles like the flat, five sided ones sold by Paul at Arrowhead Equipment. They tighten easily but loosening is more difficult. No failures to date though...

I know that feeling my friend but I've not experienced in my hammock yet.
My version of that came from a side-loaded carabiner once early on in my rescue career. We use steel biners and I was loading it with a one person load so I was technically not about to die but...
I climbed over the top parapet of the fire tower and slowly lowered myself down to load my system. I knew everything was securely fastened so even though I felt nervous my mind knew the hardware would hold. So I slowly load my system and realize I'm not going to become a dirt-dart. Good deal. Then I move a hair and the un-noticed side-loaded biner shifts to its proper angle. That two inch shift felt like the entire 50 feet. Luckily I had gone to the bathroom first!
Good lesson though and now it is something I am always watching out for and always teach others to be sure it does not happen to them too.
With that said, I am sure it will happen to me sometime with my hammock.

The self-induced heart attack has not happened to me for quite a while, but early on I went through an experimental/careless phase wherein I courted the ground on a regular basis. Experience (and muscle memory) has helped me to sever that dysfunctional relationship. It has been an amicable break-up, more or less--we still contact each other through my feet, but the full-body contact has come to an end. The ground and I have both moved on, and I think we are both better off for it.

Hope like heck it stays that way.

I think we've all had a moment like that Sometimes it takes something like that to remind us to do a gear check. Glad no damage was done to either you or the hammock.

Buckles are the newer design 5-sided plates

which I really like. No slippage even without an overhand knot as backup. I have them on my WBBB, CJH, and HH. One would think that a final check for alignment would be ingrained by now.

    Senior moment I guess.
