    Yup,

just got off the phone and barring any unforeseen circumstances I am confirmed (earlier than originally anticipated). Also... I know that one of the expenses is additional vehicle permits, my house is less than 5 min from Hwy 11 and the driveway is big enough for quite a few cars so anyone is welcome to meet there (whether I am there or not ) and ditch a car to save on parking. I can leave anytime on Friday and drive to the park with anyone that wants to car pool.

I'm in as per earlier commentary, I am still on vacation and have yet to confirm the Friday with the bosses, don't see any issues.

I'm cool for a group breakfast but will likely be handling the first day via sandwich, I can bring something for a group meal if that is the prevailing preference. The only issue we usually run into is the excess of food that we can't properly put down.

The goulash was really good, have to remember to bring a bowl...

Good to know... As a general FYI, we'll have a bit of driving up to Kearney and across to Magnetewan.

Goulash.. it really was so good!! And yeah, I'm also doing sandwiches for lunch Friday and Saturday. Oh, by the way, what's the word on Brantwing +1?

    Excess Food
To your point about excess food... It's been my pleasant experience that hangers are an amazingly generous lot, but that means that extra food can be a real challenge, especially when it has to be carried in. Unlike normal canoe trips where careful group planning and shared meals optimize space/weight/gear, these hangs are often more like a gathering of solo trippers, each bringing full cook-kits, stoves, axes and food, food and more food. Everyone likes tinkering with their gear, that's cool. It just all to often means too much food.

For sake of argument, can I table the idea that everyone brings only enough food for only their own meals, knowing that there'll be at least one big bowl of awesome soup available on the side if they want (personally, I'd love to have goulash and then trout/clam chowder). We can always do tradesies on site; an extra lamb chop for a sausage or whatever. Hopefully we'll catch some fish and then fried fish is an option.

Now if someone wants to make some sweet group dessert, a bag of chips or something, I'm sure there'll be no objections, just chime up ahead of time and the rest of can pack accordingly.

Note: I might bake a loaf or two of bread this trip if the fishing's slow.. I haven't decided yet. Of course they might turn into a batch of cinnamon buns but we'll see.

Two weeks and counting... Oh yeah...

Tracey says she was already thinking of what she can bring desert wise!

Well, if worst comes to worst and the fishing doesn't pan out (note clever play on words) and I'm too lazy to make proper bread, we can fry up some doughnuts!!!

Tracey is such a nice person...

Still, it's supposed to be a 1 in 500,000 chance of a bear going predatory, so events like that are fortunately very rare.

Still I stand by my original theory that islands are generally safer than shoreline sites. Nothing's foolproof however, so clean sites, hung food and cleaning fish away from camp still are the rule. In the end, I try not to sweat it. What'll be will be.
I was just givin you the gears a bit .

I totally agree though, for some reason I just feel safer in general on an island.

Hope you guys have a good trip!

Does that mean you're confirmed? By the way, I prefer apricot.

Is there anyone with a spot on their canoe free? I am currently in a move and money is tight so I can't afford to rent a canoe (technically I probably can't afford to come but let's not think about that :P )

If so that would be great! Otherwise I'll have to throw in my towel and save up for a winter hang.

    Thanks
    Kasuko

At a first glance I think we'll have enough room for you. I think we've got five canoes for seven confirmed people. We'll definitely know as we get a little closer. While I like paddling solo, Bubba's got dibs on my bow seat if we need the room.

To that point, does anyone own a spare canoe, paddles and/or life jackets? It would certainly help cut down on rental costs for those without. For what it's worth, I've got an extra jacket (XL) I can bring.
