ok, so I should be booking an extra site following our group size. Give me the nod Chard and I'll make the call. I just want to make sure nobody else goes ahead and books.

Curious if anyone else has done the drive from Ottawa to Kearney, how long is it? Good ol' Google Maps tells me just under 6 hours :O I'm hoping for some sort of secret short cut!

Well, I can't give you any clever shortcuts other than getting to Huntsville and turning right...

What I might suggest however, would be to try and ease the travel (and cost) with some company. I believe Kasuko's coming in from our nation's capital as well, and he's nice guy to boot!

Oh and P.S, Chenvre, I really like your listed insulation. Very amusing!!!

I also have my own PFD while I am in need to borrow a paddle still (and a spot in a canoe)

Yes I am also coming from Ottawa and if it makes sense to give or take a ride I'd be happy to.

For some inspirational reading, I refer you to one of my favorite sites for algonquin trip logs... Algonquin Adventures Canoe Trip-log Inventory. Check section 3 for stories related to the Magnetewan Lake access point.

After much subtle persuasion (aka holding my breath until I turned blue and passed out), my wife has given up in disgust and said I can come out to play. However, she's stipulated that you have to teach me how to fish. My sporadic attempts over the years have only produced Branch fish and they are a bit hard to chew.

I have a solo canoe and all the necessary equipment, so I'm good to go. Although... I wouldn't mind some advice on what fishing gear to bring.

Nice work.. Harnessed by a professional, disgust can be such a powerful tool for the forces for good!!!

Err. you attribute to me a prowess in fishing that may rank up there with my lightweight packing style. I would ask you to count the number of fish I've secured for dinner. Right. That being said, we'll be trolling for lakers and both trolling/river fishing for specks. For trolling things like traditional floating Rapalas (gold/black, silver/black), EGB spoons (a bit pricey), Cleos and some flashy Williams Wobblers are old standbys. For rivers/streams, light test line, Panther Martins, mepp, 1/8 oz jigs and various colours of 2"-3" twister tail plastic grubs. Get a couple of 1 oz weights in case we need to fish a 3-way rig (goggle it). I'll likely be bringing my fly fishing gear as well. Give me a shout.

Oh and if you aren't snaging, you ain't fishing!! (well, most of the time)
