    tarp for $60

On Dave Canterbury's youtube channel he is showing a silnylon tarp for around $60. He says it is just under 10x10. I think he said each side is 9'10". It has grommets and tieouts. I think it might be pretty good for hammocks, unfortuanately i wont be able to order one any time soon. Here is a link to the video:

For a tarp with grommets, it indeed looks pretty good. Too bad they added them.

Not sure of weights, but the grommets add more than you'd think, even w/o the eventual rust. I like light.

For 11' Hammocks, you might have to use a GrizzBeak or over cover, to get coverage.

Still looks like a pretty good tarp for the cash. Double check shipping costs!

If 4 little grommets add to much weight some one might want to work out a bit

    Valid point.

Usually they are just plain and simple a weak link in tarp construction. Prone to rusting AND pulling out, where well placed reinforced looped tie outs do not.

It APPEARS they attempted to address that problem somewhat, with placement in the webbing and not just through a reinforced section of Sil.

Grommets are still IMHO useless weight, and weak points in most tarp construction. Carry them and anything else you might wish of course, regardless of conditioning, or lack thereof.

I'm not UL yet.....but getting there, and useless crap, ain't going there, with me.

I saw that video too and I highly doubt that tarp is silnylon. Look at the size of the stuff sack it came in. It's more likely a polyurethane coated ripstop nylon. It's good that it comes with both webbing loops and that the grommets are run through the webbing. I believe the Speer Tarps had that configuration.

    Cheers

You are probably right. I did think the stuff sack looked kind of large for sil-nylon and he did say it felt like it had a coating on one side. I wish he had told the weight of it.

Then we're not really talking backpacking gear. And the weight consideration, isn't going to be 4 shiny little grommets. OK.

I think you can find a Gear Guide, Kelty, Chinook, Campmor or something similar in Sil, that will be bigger and lighter, for that much or less. Won't be cottage quality or weight, but you may still even be able to find one with grommets, and still be lighter, if that's cool.
