Torso pad vs full length pad?

I have a Blackbird hammock. I'm still planning on upgrading to an UQ / TQ setup but I'm not ready to make the jump.

For now I'm using full length mummy cut blue cell foam.

I'd like to swap that out in favor of a thermarest solar sol pad which has a much higher R value.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a torso pad vs a full length pad?

I haven't really experimented if my feet get cold without insulation under them. Some people go with 3/4 UQs though.. I was thinking maybe the insulation is redundant.

It's not much weight but its a lot of bulk that I might not be able to fit into my pack.

I strap a full length pad to the bottom of my pack.
less chance of it sliding out from under me in the middle of the night.

He straps the pad to the bottom of his pack while hiking. When sleeping at night, a full length pad is less likely to slip out from under him.

    Hope that clarified.

thanks - yes, that's what I was trying to say.
strapping the pad to the outside of the pack means i don't have to worry about it taking up too much space inside the pack.

I use a 3/4 UQ and use a Thermarest Sit-Pad in my TQ for my feet. I always need something under them. In the video below go in to 10:50 and you can see if needed.

Thanks Shug. This is a good idea btw. This way I have the sit pad when I'm lounging around on the ground.

Pro-tip. My niece and I found that if you just lay down flat, on the ground with your feet NOT support in any weight from 2-4x per day (usually ever 2 hours) for about 5 minutes at a time it can SERIOUSLY improve your overall performance during the day.

I was DEAD tired one day after going about 10 hours up hill... we both collapsed and I just laid down. Ten minutes later I got up and felt like a million bucks and she couldn't keep up

Im stuck between pads for my feet. I have a DIY UQ thats 44"X44". So I need something under my feet for 40* and bellow. Im stuck between the Therma Rest Sit Pad,Gossamer Gear Torso Pad, and the Gossamer XL Sit Pad Or the 3/16 pad What do you think?
