Water tight, ~2 lbs; looks like a great project and addition to your kit. Look forward to pics down the road.

Wonder what the price tag will be? I know Mike is doing a lot of changes to it before releasing it. I was emailing him quite often about thing. We were throwing ideas back and forth and talking about other things as well. I'm sure it will be a while before its out, I'm guessing January.

A hanging Swag ... perhaps not innovative ... but certainly practical and one I would employ ... looking forward to the final product. Good Luck with your endeavor

Not very innovative, but something which could be quite practical. I do not seek product to get me to the mountain peaks, but a more like a housing solution for one night trips.

I'm very surprised that this has not done before. But maybe it is the fear of condensation and the fact that Hammocks are traditionally used in environments with stable (hot) weather. Here in Finland there is always possibility of short rain during night. That means tarp must be deployed every night.

But with the Alpine hammock I now (or january) can go to sleep and if rain comes I just pull out the weather cover. It makes my hiking bit easier. And gives me an opportunity to sleep under open sky.

It may be that I even have the tarp with me, for longer rain periods, but now there is no need to deploy it every night.

I was bit surprised that the Alpine hammock did not get others as excited as I was when I heard someone is going to make it. It is elegant and easy to use and makes tarp a non necessary object in short one night trips.

And of course there is still the option to use it as a Bivi bag when in the area of no suitable trees.

My plan for bottom insulation is Thermarest Neo Air all season large (700 g) and for top insulation I will use the enLIGHTened equipment climashield quilt (1000 g, rated for +15 F). With this setup the whole three season hammock sleep system will weight about 2600 g (about 5.7 lbs). I read that The Alpine hammock is targeting under 2 lbs (900 g).

And these three pieces of equipment would be all, nothing else, not even ground pegs are needed. Simple, easy, robust and elegant - these things I always target for with my equipment.

I guess I should start saving pennies now. Maybe I overlooked it, but did he have anywhere what kind of temperature rating or insulation might be included?

Looks nice... I'll definitely be interested in user feedback on how comfy it is. The lack of bottom insulation has me concerned though.
