Mountainfitter 1/8" EVA pads now in stock

Just got an email from Lawson that the 1/8" EVA pad he mentioned is now in stock. Pretty impressive size for not a lot of dough and cheaper than other retailers with free shipping. For the price, I couldn't *not* pick one up (as well as some Ironwire). Details and link below.

If you've never purchased from Lawson before, he's a great guy and an outstanding retailer. He'll do right by ya.

    Specifications:
    -Flat Size: 24" Wide x 74" Long x 1/8" Thick
    -Rolled Size" 24" Long x 4" Diameter
    -Weight: 4.20oz
    -Colors: Charcoal
-Features: Waterproof, Insulative, Compact & Lightweight
    -Made In The USA

I've been waiting for it to be available since he mentioned it previously, and I just ordered one myself.

You mentioned Ironwire...is it basically orange zing-it? If you've used it before, can you please share your thoughts on it? Thanks!

Isn't this the very thickness that Warbonnetguy has recommended here or Brandon has recommended at his web page? Here it is from Brandon's Hammocks 101.

Lots of others prefer closed cell foam (ccf) pads which generally have a higher warmth-to-weight ratio although they are usually bulkier when packed, but tend to say put better in the hammock. These are available on the roll so you can buy what you need and then cut it to your desired width/shape. If the foam is high quality, 1/8" can be enough for summer nights, 1/4" thickness for milder weather (down into the 40's), 3/8" for cooler weather (to freezing or below) and 1/2"-5/8" down into the single digits and below. One example would be to have a 1/4" piece and a 3/8" piece. These could be used separately depending on the temps, and then could be stacked together to get 5/8" thickness for the coldest of weather. If you camp mostly in warmer weather, combining 1/8" and 1/4" might be a good option.

ccf is available at a reasonable price and by-the-yard at many upholstery shops. I've found very high quality foam on the A1 Foam and Fabrics Website. It is on a 60" roll, so be aware that you'll need 2 yards to get a 6' long piece.

The mini-cell foam here is about the same weight but seems like it might be slightly more warmth efficient, but at a bit higher price. I found the 1/16” mini-cell skins to be more like 1/8” thickness

Go to his web page to find links to URLS.

You think putting 2 of these together would be just as warm as a 1/4"? What about putting a layer of reflectix in there?

Dang rc why didn't you read my mind?! Did you use yours at the hang or do you use an underquilt now? How was it at those temps? Is it going to mess up my lay you think?

You know none of us guys can read minds! I didn't use it at the hang. I've tried it out, and didn't like it in a single layer hammock...tried using it in a double layer at the hang, and I like that much more. I already had an underquilt, but got the pad while it was on the introductory sale to use at lower temps and also for simplicity if I didn't want to hang the underquilt. I can't speak for the warmth at any temps because I haven't used it but for a few minutes testing it.
