Most of the time I have no idea if someone posting here is female or male, nor do I care. Just know that we share a common interest in hanging.

I find it troubling that we have to lay out a mat anywhere on the internet and say "Hey, girls are welcome here!" I know there are icky places, and even not-icky places which have a strong 'male' feel to them, but this is not one of them- it's got a 'hammock, outdoorsy' feel to it- and sorry guys, but that's not an exclusively male thing. We talk about sewing here! (sorry- thread injecting. )

Having to say "hey, girls are welcome here" implies that in most places, they are not. Perhaps this is the case, but I think we help the issue by ACTING OUT that women are welcome instead of having to slap a banner on. Because, it's the internet. Go where-ever you want.

Here, here! And I say this as I'm about to go go sew my sister a bug net, talk about gender role reversal. My sister is an accomplished hunter, fisher woman and all around outdoors woman. I think I might miss out on some info that might help her if it were in a woman's only sub-forum. At the very least it should be a women's perspective sub-forum open to all. What about women, like my wife, who bristle at being singled out and pandered to (not that this is pandering),but to her it would reminiscent of her mother's "hen parties" (her words not mine) where they sat around men bashing and then complained that they couldn't get dates . I think that she would think that, this type of social distinction was unnecessary and we are all a team. Maybe we should have a boy or girl badge option, for our avatars, if we cared to use them.

P.S. There is already a kitchen sub-forum in the donating members area, what more could you girls need?

    P.S.S. Don't hurt me.

We've decided against it for now. We only create subforums for organizational purposes, and there's just not enough dialogue right now to justify it. Creating a subforum might encourage additional dialogue, but only in the off-topic subforum...and honestly, we'd prefer to encourage more on-topic hammock discussion and limit the amount of non-hammock talk.

As someone who lobbied hard in this thread for the sub-forum, I can respect that. My thoughts were also for categorization purposes. If there's not enough dialogue, that's understandable. Thanks for the consideration.
