Canadian Source For Webbing?

Can anyone recommend a decent Canadian source for webbing? MEC sells lots of it but I think they sell Nylon (which will stretch if I'm not mistaken?). I'm looking for a webbing that won't stretch that I can order online here in Canada. I checked out some US sites like Strapworks, however ordering about $5.00 worth of webbing will cost me $29.00 to ship

You're right, the webbing at MEC is nylon and stretches. Many of us up here order from the cottage vendors here who use less expensive shipping. I personally have bought webbing from Arrowhead Equipment and Whoopie Slings.com. I've bought stuff from Dutchware and Dutch also uses less expensive shipping.

As you are in Ontario, you can also just head to Princess Auto, if you have one in your area. They always have a multitude of strapping (tow straps, come-alongs etc.) I use polyester webbing from there (2") and just water knot it on the ends. You will find that in Ontario you will need a good sized strap. Mine are 12' or so, currently.

Edit - these are the ones I use. Cut the hooks off and burn the ends.

Thanks Rylake, do you find the 2 inch webbing too big or is it ok? I'm in Waterdown and I think there is a Princess Auto in Hamilton somewhere. Maybe I'll check it out!

I see that most people here use 1" or 1-1/2", but I like the wider webbing. Sometimes, as you know, some of the old thick bark around here can be quite coarse so I like the extra holding surface the 2" webbing provides. 3500lbs breaking strength is nice to have as well.

A large majority of people use 1 inch but its whatever you are comfortable with. Many are weight conscious backpackers so 1 inch is what they use. If it doesn't matter to you, 2 inch webbing is theoretically better.

Fair enough, I can understand the weight issue for backpackers. I put a ton of kms on in a canoe, so weight is not my biggest worry. I have even used the straps end to end to line my canoe through unsafe rapids, and to collect firewood.

Just thinking off the top of my head. Most auto supply places and Canadian tire carry ratchet strap systems. I wonder if some of them might carry strap material separately??
