Looking for some info on Mt. Rodgers Virginia

Anyone out there every spent some time in Mt. Rodgers National Recreation Area in Southern Virginia?

I am heading up there this weekend and I know that in places the trees can be scarce and was hoping I wouldn't have any problems finding a place to hang. Feel free to PM me or answer on this thread. Thanks for the help.

you should have no problem finding a place to hang unless you are stuck trying to be close to some ground dwellers

I've spent a few days & nights on some of the trails, mostly between Grayson Highlands State Park (GHSP), Elk Garden parking area, & Fairwood parking area on 603.
If you have an idea what trails you might be taking, we could probably point you toward water sources & nicer hammock tree areas.
You can find plenty good places to hang, but there are stretches that don't offer much for hammocking. Most of those are on the highest ridges as best I can remember, but there are quite a few nice hanging spots up high too.
Water & good hammock trees seam to become more common as you get lower on the mountains & into the valleys.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

There are some places that seem treeless, but you are never really far from sutable trees.
If this helps, we have hung 18 hammocks near the Wise shelter in the highlands, so yea, there are trees.

    Where you going?
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I will let you know Thursday my planned route, my local REI did not have the map so I will need to make a special trip to south Charlotte to get one. Thanks again for everyone's help.
