I have a ladder rack I added to my truck for hauling my canoe. I have put a 10' pole across the rack and attached my hammock to the ends of it for a short try at home. Turns out I have never needed to use it overnight, but I think it would work fine.

Have been pondering this setup as well, but I have a 61/2 ft bed with a camper shell that is flush with roof cf the cab. So not a lot of height. But gotta figure a way somehow, must have my hammock. Don't know if I can even sleep on anything else anymore. I don't care if my butt's only a couple of inches off the bed of truck as long as im hanging. Hope to see some good ideas posted. I agree with old gringo about something with ridgepole. I thought about eyebolts hanging from roof of my camper shell, but thought better of it. Fiberglass shell probably wouldn't take the weight( only rated to 300lbs).

Hmmm I have an F150 and I have the Thule Goal Post that you put in the rear hitch to mount a canoe....I have to give this a shot for sure!
Just a thought... no idea if it would hurt the truck. Just need some long webbing to go from front hooks. Might be too much stress on the roof though.
I wonder if you could put the webbing over a set of racks on top of the truck roof and then to the front hooks? Hmmm interesting idea!
