    First Hammock Test

    Hi everyone!

Just finished making my first hammock and was able to test it out today. I would like to thank all the people who have dedicated a lot of time and effort into providing such a wealth of information. I would like to send out a special "WHOOOOO BUDDY!" to Shug for all his very helpful videos and a big thank you to Just Jeff for his website! Oh, and I could not have done this without some quality Dutchware! Anyways, the test went great. It took me a little bit to figure out my "lay", but actually fell asleep and had a little siesta under the trees! Gotta say, I'm hooked!

    Looks good.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!

Thanks for the kind comments. This was my first bout with sewing machine. I made a fixed ridgeline out of 7/64 amsteel I had left over by putting a 4in brummel splice in each end. I guessed about 93in, and it feels pretty good. I think I will change it to something lighter later down the road. I am off to the office in the morning to drop it on the mail scale to get a total weight. Now my thoughts are turning tarps . . . . getting there slowly but surely. Definitely could not have done it with out all the support and knowledge on these forums!

Looking great. I built my first hammock the same way last month. Isn't it great when you can lay in something you built yourself and it actually works?

Total hammock weight is 14.8oz. This includes 72" tree straps with dutch clips, 6' whoopies with whoopie clips, a ridgeline (currently set at 93"), and of course the hammock (1.4oz ripstop nylon). Not sure how this stacks up, but I am pleased.
