Don't "go" pee out in the cold. Pee in a bottle carried especially for that purpose. I'd say screw the lid on tight and keep it in the hammock but no one gets that cold! LOL

Winter hanging is an Art ....
test at home in the yard or at a camp ground where you can bail to your car if need be ...
there is no real wrong way to go about it the only thing that matters is that YOU are warm and having a good time
Hangs are a great place to learn how others stay warm or group outings
test,test,test... and more test till you find what works

for me i like a UQ with a weather shield .. or for deep winter car camping i layer UQ's since weight is not an issue car camping but backpacking is a different story it's all about weight savings for me
but there is one universal truth the winter hanging ... there is no cheap way about it
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

    Thumbs up Hammock Sock!!!

Dude. I made my hammock sock out of tyvek. It was originaly a bivy with the bottom sealed from each corner leaving the middle third open. Then I applied velcro to that area so I could close the bottom or leave it open for more ventilation. Now this works great for the hammock! I thread the hammock through the sock and through the vent hole in the bottom. I have not measured...but at LEAST 10 degrees warmer in the morning. I bet the windier and wetter it gets...the more you will appreciate a tyvek hammock sock. Just crinkle it up a bunch before hand or it will be VERY noisey. Good luck!

i am a big fan of the water bottle trick in extreme weather in a hammock or on the ground.

I agree, prepare by testing your rig in these conditions, and have a bailout plan in the ready - a place to thaw out (a cabin with a fireplace sounds good but that's just me..).
