Battery junction has the small metal ones for cheap if you buy 10
a prusik knot makes sense. why the carabines though, as apposed to the tiny ones with the solid end, like what most people here showed?
I'm going to hook the biners to the tarp loops, then run the cord w/ a loop around the stake to the figure 9. May not be everyone's preference, but it's what I'm going to try. I want to stow the lines/cord separate from the tarp to prevent tangles, etc...we'll see how it all works out this coming weekend...
I think you're talking about guy lines, rc, and getting answers for ridge lines.
There are simpler and easier tensioners for guy lines.

I use all small plastic figure 9s on my tarp. They work great with the nite ize reflective cord. Here is a video I made about all of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7szm...e_gdata_player
You could make little prusik knots and attach the figure 9s to those. That would make them easy to slide and would hold under tension. But they are pretty quick and easy to move on their own
I just mentioned that I just purchased some Figure 9 biners from Battery Junction, and was more than happy with the prices...then someone asked why biners?...so I explained. I'll find out this weekend if they're simple/easy enough or not...I've used regular plastic Figure 9s before, and they're plenty simple/easy...this will allow me to keep the guy lines separate from the tarp when storing it...which is what I want.
how reliable are the plastic ones? i'm worried that after to much exposure to the elements, and to much tension, that they will break. that is why i want the metal ones, so this wont happen, at least not for a while. but if the plastic ones are pretty strong and durable.....
