Nice. I'm curious about what made the hang, "not the most comfortable". Also, what lead you to hang from one branch?

i didn't have the straps quite far enough apart. also, the angle of the straps change a bit when the "pole/tree" is horizontal instead of vertical. thus creating a very sagged hammock. what lead me to hang from one branch? just seemed like a good idea, and i figured it was something new and different. i wanted to see what was possible and what wasn't. sorry about the quality of the picture. but you can kinda see how the gathered ends come up pretty steep. that is what created the "not so comfortable" hang. i'm going to work on strap placement though and get it figured out.

I've thought about it often while up in my deer stand but I haven't tried. Rock climbers sleep on sheer cliff faces, you may want to look how they do it. I'd be more apt to try it with a proper climbing harness instead of my tree stand safety harness.

Nice try. It actually look pretty comfortable to me; the angles of the hammock in the pic don't look too much more than "normal". Of course, we each have our comfort zone. I wonder how it would have worked if you had stretched the hammock out a bit. Of course, there's only so much branch. I kind of pictured myself hanging between two branches on the same tree... Thanks for sharing

not a problem. i'll try to get back out there and get better pictures and mess around with placement. then i can give feedback and hopefully get more people hanging this way. the hardest part is getting the straps wrapped around the branch. but doing things like this is what i love about hammocking

As I see it, Hammocking is all about options. I like options! If hanging from a single branch or two branches in the same tree is a viable option, I want it in my "pack". There may come a time when that will be the preferable hang in a situation, as in Geektar's pic.
