    SWT on ground

I am planning trip out west this winter and I really won't be able to use my Hammock. I don't have a tent, but I have got plenty of tarps. I am thinking about taking my Speer Winter Tarp and wondered if anyone has any experience with setting it up using hiking poles. I plan on trying some stuff out this weekend so any advance knowledge would be useful. I could also decide to hake my maccat standard and use my Packa for an endcap.

    Where you headed?
    The desert?
If rain is just an off chance, a tarp is fine.
Here is a link to my trip to Big Bend last spring.
Most of the time we just slept under the stars....
I took along the hennessy hex just in case.
If it was windy, I'd make a windblock (see pic #14)
One night we had some clouds so I used my poles and staked the four corners (see pic 43)
You can see I got a pretty low pitch and I felt confident if it had rained...it didn't...
I think with the swt you could pitch it like I did the hex and pull the 'doors' inward.

I used a SWT last week. The first night we we weren't allowed to use the trees and had to go to ground. Worked fine. I used my hiking poles to hold it up front and rear and attached the sides to the ground with tent stakes. There is enough overhang that rain shouldn't be a problem, as long as the center seam is sealed properly.

These pics from Ed's site might give you some ideas on how to set up. I'm sure the coverage provided from the SWT would be more than most tents.

2? That is a real nice mod. I like the spreader bar, does that go from tie out to tie out?

No, ZQ added pole pockets in the center.
