Exactly! I did not want to give fuel to the one wanting to start a fire by mentioning that.

The testing I did is consistent with what Opie and some others have done. I'm very comfortable with it and so is our insurance company. We are whoopieslings.com, not Bechtel Labs, so we test with the resources we have available. There maybe be lighter/faster/stronger methods to make a soft shackle but ours is proven and is cost effective.

The breaking strengths tested by l-36.com and informally at NERopes were of Dyneema SK-75- based lines. No more than 10-15% of any difference in breaking strength would be accounted for by differences in company who made the line of the specified size. Anyway, the ratios of breaking strength to line strength are what matters, and they are what is given. To get professional testing to Cordage Institute protocols it isn't surprising that NERopes would have preferred their consultant, Brion Toss, to test the devices with NERopes cord.

Before knocking on NERopes, recall that they make the throw-line, Dynaglide.

Not answered is whether I could expect a shackle with a diamond stopper knot in Dynaglide to be strong to not diminish the load-bearing capacity of an optimally constructed suspension of 7/64" Amsteel.

Back in archives here and advanced to one of the first posts on the 'nacra biner" were test results by an HF member in which some alternative stoppers failed miserably. No details were given of knot construction.

Roseanne, rest in peace. A life cut short prematurely, but not from a failed knot.

Here is the company that certified the shackles I sell..... It is from this certification, in which I have documented proof of the pull, unlike the tests supposedly done at NER from your l-36 source, that I am able to confidently derive a 1.6 factor of strength. (conservatively)

They will pull anything apart you send them. $100 per destructive pull, at least that's what I paid per specimen. I encourage you to make up whatever you have questions about and send it to them, or another company that does destructive testing.

If the originator of this thread has a "better" way, then great. Share that info..in a manner that isnt pointing a finger at a specific company.

    I'd rather hear comments/posts like....
"hey guys, I found this recent info, and I thought I'd share it.."
"I found this info, tried it, tested it, and "this" works better for me.."
"I'd stake your personal safety on my techniques, becuase I know that this works."

If your just trolling for an argument, look elsewhere.
