OK--

After a bit of research have found out that Texas Wildlife management areas require a permit for use. Its called a limited use permit and info can be found here. It costs $12.00 per year.

Here is the 68 page booklet with maps and regulations.

Given that use of WMA's require permits even for camping, and the fact that I don't see many with developes trails (at least mraked on those maps), we should probably set them aside for now, but research the dickens out of them as some of them are in interesting areas and would likely be superior hiking/camping opportunities for the future trips. I think with some good research, and some GPS/bushwhacking skills there's a lot of fun to be had at several of these with proper planning.

Looks good, but its NFS land. Do you know what the camping regs are?

Called Sabine National Forest. The lady who answered the phone was quite confused by my asking if there were any restrictions during doe season.. Bottom line, she thinks the trail is closed starting Oct. 1st..

Thanks---I held back some, but I think the general idea got through. If you've been following this tragi-comedy since the beginning of the year you know that its more frustrating than getting a four year old to bed after he's eaten a box of brownies.

To the subject at hand:

I'm leaning towards 4C. We can at least get a long hike out of that, and the hunter camps may not be too crowded during bow season.

What say y'all?
