    Howdy from Seongnam, Korea

I'm originally from Rochester, NY and I'm glad to see there are a number of people from my neck of the woods already on here.

I've been intrigued by the possibility of hammock camping for awhile and recently bought a Clark Ultra Light (which at 2 lbs 9 oz. ain't exactly ultra light). I wanted to get a Hennessy, but for logistical reasons it wasn't going to happen. I'm still adjusting to the Clark and suppose I'll be adjusting it to me as well.

I know I've got a lot to learn about hammock hanging and I'm reading Derek Hansen's book, which is very helpful. It's tough to try get into the swing of things alone overseas. I look forward to moving back to the states in the next year or two where I can meet up with some of you at group hangs and learn from what you all are doing.

Welcome from Oklahoma. My niece lives near Rochester, and I want to visit her, she really likes it. You'll enjoy this group of people.

Welcome aloft from SC. Enjoy your time there in Korea and send pics of some hangs. I bet you can find some great places to hang over there. Wish I had a hammock when I was over there years ago.

    Welcome from SC.

Was in Uijongbu during the mid-90's. Was an original member of the H3 there and spent plenty of time just out-side of town running in the hills where there were plenty of spots to hang (had I been hanging back then). That would have been a far better use of my time than running with that group...

    Stay safe over there!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try to post some pics when I figure out how to do it. There are some great places to hang over here. I was just on Jeju island off the south coast of Korea last weekend in a massive forest of 40-60 year old trees called Japanese Cedars. They towered straight up, had no branches below 10 or 15 feet, and were positioned close enough together for hanging a hammock. Actually in that forest you could hang millions of hammocks. It was beautiful to behold, but frustrating because no overnight camping was allowed.

The campgrounds here are usually small and filled with hundreds of tents set up right on top of one another. I used them a few times 10-12 years ago but can't bring myself to do it anymore. The provincial and national parks don't allow overnight camping except in the campgrounds, so I usually just stealth camp along rivers or on mountains that aren't in the parks. I've only slung the hammock a couple of times, but I can do it in the hills right behind my neighborhood and no one bothers me (except the mosquitoes).
