    DIY Indoor hammock setups?

I saw someone post a cool idea where they screwed a hook into a stud on either side of the room. Then they set up and hung from them. I was thinking of doing something similar until I was just told that we don't have a full studs in the walls. They are pieces of studs stacked on top of each other and won't hold my weight. If any you guys have come up with any other clever ideas for hanging in the house, let me know. I have been sleeping uncomfortably for way to long.

    Thanks,
    Steven

Turtle Dog stand. Materials from HomeDepot/Lowes will run you $50. It will work best if you have access to a saw to cut the wood to length and add angled cuts to the ends.

My girlfriend and I hang our hammocks from the ceiling. By far my favorite method for indoor hanging.

I found the studs on opposite walls the proper distance and height away each other drilled a pilot hole and used a large eyelet as an anchor. I have had all of my walls open and know the guy who built them. (me) I was not worried about them pulling in on me. Depending on where you are going to hang, or if you know how the construction of the particular wall a 2x4 stud can hold you but as many will tell you there is a whole lot a force on that 2x4. In a buddies house his basement had 2x2 studs, not big enough. His floor joists were manufactures I beams, in that case we actually had to use a hole saw through the joist and thread a section of chain through. THere are lots of ways to do it just make sure you know its safe and solid.

I built my first stand with scrap wood from a neighbor's wood pile, some sheet rock screws, and a couple of eye bolts. It worked great. The only reason I made another, of a different design, at a cost of $75, was that I wanted something that looked more like a piece of furniture. Otherwise, I would still be using it. You can see both stands in my photo gallery.

I've never made one of these so it strictly conceptual. Imagine this: get a 4x4 that is say 5' or 6' tall and stand it on its end and screw it to the studs in the wall (this just keeps it from tipping over but should prolly be some decent size screws. On the other side of the room do the same thing. Then to borrow from the turtlelady/turtledog stands secure a compression pole to the top of the 4x4, whether you do that my cutting a U shape to accept the pole or some other means to hold it still is up to you. Now simply hang your hammock from the compression pole... Easy to put up and down and doesn't take up the whole room. Again this is purely theoretical but I can't see why it wouldn't work. You could use THESE poles as mentioned in the turtledog stand thread.
    Good luck,

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347070155.934933.jpg this cost 80 in 1in piping and connectors. I assembled it at home depot to see if it worked in 4 minutes. The only thing I wish I did different is have another row of piping to feel more stabilization but at least I know this won't break like a wood setup one day.
