    Tenn nut says hi!

Just a word to say "Hi" and "thanks for sharing with a novice." I have followed this forum and other avenues in learning about hammocks. I just put together my first DIY hammock - I followed a tip on using tablecloths. I can say it works. With my size - 260+ - I purchased two. Since I don't have a sewing machine, I contracted with a seamstress locally to zip around the edges. My insulation/cover will be a recycled sleeping bag. I had the tarp for several years. Yes I am up in the stratosphere with the weight, perhaps but when one is a semi-disabled nut like me I have to economize. Now I just have to find the time to socialize with the fellow hangers.

Welcome ... from Nashville too! You've come to the right place to learn about hammocking.

Neo has an annual "hang" down the Natchez Trace Parkway at Meriwether Lewis National Monument and Campground coming up in October. If you want to see lots of hammocks, rainflies, quilts, and other gear, I'd highly recommend driving down for a day or two. Nice folks and you'll learn a lot.

Link to Neo's hang in October.

Also, we have a little backpacking group here in Nashville, with a monthly meeting tomorrow evening. Let me know if you'd like more info.

Welcome to the forums. There is a fairly large number of members in this area. I will second Rain Man on Neo's hangs. Every one I have been to has been great (even if the weather wasn't), and there is always plenty of gear to see.

    Welcome to the trees!

Take Lazyboy's advice. Group hangs are a great place to learn, see a wide range of gear, and meet some great people.
