Just did some research on tagging - I have looked at a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5gHz8h4kTA and haven't the foggiest idea how to get it to hold a seam together. Is this the same tagging as you mentioned DemoStix?

Just checked with Sailrite. Per Title, their sailmaker said none of the tapes they sell for seams, strengthening, aligning, or further water-resisting them, will adhere to silnylon.

Yeah, I know. Thats why you have to have expensive silicone based tapes.

That's not a basting gun. The bating barbs are only about 1/8" at longest and hold fabrics really well. The real basting guns use very small needles and don't leave big holes. It adds a step of removing the barbs after sewing and on a tarp you would have more holes to seal. The barbs are really quick to take out with a skim blade and are nice to use on slippery fabrics because you don't have to stop sewing to remove them like pins.

I personally wouldn't use one on a tarp, but I use them on plenty of other items.

What specific product do you have in mind? Is it the 3m product that is used by the fabricators of cuben articles? The 3M product Sailrite sells @ $49 per 60 yard 1" roll, "Super Seam Seal" meets the criterion of "expensive" for a home builder. But it adds <$3 for a tarp ridge line for a commercial maker. That's less than the expense or what must be charged for seam sealing.

Bainbridge International sells the silicone seam tape. P/N J213 and J125 for 1/2" & 3/4" respectively. I don't have my price list in front of me but it seams like it was around $16. In the grand scheme not a lot but more than I want to spend for the 10' of tape I would use per tarp. I didn't know we were discussing prices of stuff as it related to full production commercial tarps, I was thinking about these items and how they relate to a guy making one or two tarps at home.

Can someone direct me to the post rg using the diluted silicone to glue baffles on Under/top quilts prior to sewing. I know I've seen this but cannot locate it.
