This last labor day weekend, somewhere in Missouri, I experienced my first hammock camping experience. I've been an avid hammocker for a long time, but never made the jump to camp or sleep in one. Up until now, I've been a car camper that slept in my friend's tents with a disappointing degree of comfort.
We did a day of canoeing, and then camped. It was around 70 degrees, and
even though it rained the entire time, it was the most comfortable nights sleep I have ever had while camping.
My hammock was undersized (a grandtrunk travel hammock) and I was sharing the experience with my girlfriend (in a grandtrunk skeeter beeter,) bumping into each other all night because of our limited tree setup under one tarp, but we were both absolutely blown away how much better the experience was with a comfortable and dry nights sleep.
I'm also starting to depart from the "bring everything but the kitchen sink" method of car camping. I can't wait to get out and spend another night in the woods in my hammock, It has completely rejuvenated my joy of camping.
Big thanks from the midwest,
Troy
